About the Role:

As a Lead Construction Engineer at Gatwick Airport, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the operations of one of the world's most advanced single runway airports. In a dynamic and active setting, you will collaborate with a team of dedicated professionals who are committed to excellence in their work.

Your involvement in significant infrastructure projects, particularly the Pier 6 Western Extension, will be crucial in elevating passenger experience and operational performance. This initiative aims to expand the existing Pier 6, allowing for an increased number of aircraft stands to meet future demands. Following this project, a variety of exciting opportunities within the Major Projects Programme await your expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Programme Construction Manager, you will be instrumental in ensuring the successful execution of complex projects at Gatwick Airport. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and mentoring construction management resources assigned to your projects, fostering their professional growth and maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Conducting regular safety engagements on projects to uphold Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) compliance and promote a positive safety culture.
  • Reviewing contractor submissions for compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Inspecting construction work to ensure adherence to design specifications.
  • Assisting the Project Manager in managing contractual communications.
  • Addressing construction-related challenges effectively.
  • Coordinating with electrical and mechanical engineering teams to ensure project alignment.
  • Monitoring project progress and facilitating contractor operations through effective negotiation of access and permits.

What We Seek:

In this role, adaptability and problem-solving skills are essential, as you will engage with various stakeholders, including Airfield Operations and Passenger Services. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience as a Field Engineer, Section Engineer, or Sub Agent.
  • Desirable aviation experience, particularly with large-scale civil and infrastructure projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Experience in leading small teams.
  • Familiarity with project handover and closeout processes.
  • A background in addressing HSE issues in construction settings.
  • Knowledge of quality management practices.
