About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and diligent Benefits Officer to join our Benefits Team at Rugby Borough Council. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the administration of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction claims, and Discretionary Housing Payment applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process claims accurately and efficiently in accordance with legislative requirements and DWP targets.
  • Maintain knowledge of government policies relating to Benefits legislation, including Universal Credit eligibility criteria and working practices of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, and Discretionary Housing Payments.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of functions, procedures, and systems relating to the assessment of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, and Discretionary Housing Payments.
  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to enquiries face-to-face, over the phone, and online, and communicating effectively and appropriately with customers verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain accurate computerized records of data collected in respect of the administration and payment of claims.
Requirements
  • Experience of processing Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction claims, and Discretionary Housing Payment applications.
  • Knowledge of Civica OpenRevenues and Workflow systems (training can be provided).
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
