Torquay, Torbay, United Kingdom Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are looking for an innovative and clinically knowledgeable Assistant Chief Medical Information Officer (ACMIO) to become a vital part of our NHS Trust. This role is essential in assisting the Chief Medical Information Officer in spearheading the digital evolution of our healthcare services, both within our acute care facilities and throughout our community health programs.

You will collaborate closely with the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) team, Health Informatics Service (HIS), and various digital service providers within the Trust. Additionally, you will partner with members of the broader Trust leadership team to facilitate the provision of safe, effective, and high-quality healthcare services.

This position is part-time (5 PAs), but we have a variety of clinical teams within the organization that may benefit from additional qualified clinical professionals. We welcome inquiries from potential candidates outside the organization for further details.

Key Responsibilities

The ACMIO role is crucial in connecting clinical practice with information technology within the Trust. This position will play a significant role in the deployment of the Trust EPR. You will collaborate with clinical professionals to create new, digitally enhanced pathways, ensuring that the transformation process is led by clinical insights. This will necessitate experience in clinical practice and ideally some background in clinical management. Most importantly, it requires a strong understanding of and enthusiasm for the potential of digital technology in clinical environments. You will work alongside the EPR and Health Informatics Team within the Trust. As ACMIO, you will also engage with staff at all levels throughout the organization, including community members and beyond your own clinical specialties. You will assist in developing and executing a digital strategy that aligns with the Trust's and broader clinical objectives. This will ensure that technology enhances clinical care, improves patient outcomes and safety, increases productivity, and enriches the user experience. This position is part-time (5 PAs), but we have a variety of clinical teams within the organization that may benefit from additional qualified clinical professionals. We welcome inquiries from potential candidates outside the organization for further details.

About Us

Why Join Us

You will serve as an advocate for digital transformation within the Trust, promoting the integration of technology into healthcare practices. You will collaborate with senior management to ensure that digital initiatives support clinical objectives and enhance patient care.

Clinical Engagement

You will act as a liaison between the Health Informatics Service (HIS) and clinical staff, ensuring that technological solutions meet the needs of clinicians and support safe, effective patient care. You will lead initiatives to involve clinicians in the selection, development, and implementation of EPR modules and other digital tools and systems. You will facilitate feedback mechanisms between clinical users and IT developers to ensure ongoing enhancement of digital services. You will coordinate with clinical departments and services to ensure the smooth integration of the EPR and subsequent upgrades into existing workflows.

Governance, Clinical Safety, and Compliance

You will ensure that digital health initiatives adhere to legal, ethical, and regulatory standards, including data protection laws and clinical safety requirements. You will participate in governance committees to oversee the secure and effective use of clinical information systems, contributing to the development of policies and procedures governing the use of digital technologies in clinical settings.

Training and Development

Alongside the CCIO and CNIO, you will lead the creation of training programs for clinical staff on new systems and technologies, ensuring high levels of digital literacy across the Trust. This will include identifying and addressing any skill gaps among clinical staff regarding the use of digital tools, fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Innovation and Research

You will be expected to stay informed about emerging trends and innovations in digital healthcare, evaluating their potential application within the Trust, which will be reflected in the SPA allocation to the role.
