About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to join our team in Grays, Essex. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing a team of drivers and ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of fuel to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of drivers to ensure service delivery in line with customer requirements and contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with the Transport Managers to ensure regional operations meet objectives and KPIs related to O License Undertakings, operational compliance, SHEQ, financial performance, customer service, and HR tasks.
  • Manage driver attendance and performance issues within company guidelines and procedures to ensure good utilization of resource levels and availability.
  • Assist the Operations team in Tamworth with shift execution and be the point of escalation for on-shift driver issues.
  • Monitor and manage tachograph infringements in line with company procedures.
  • Manage the Tachograph Improvement Scheme to ensure drivers receive required training.
  • Monitor and improve MPG per vehicle to ensure they are within agreed levels.
  • Monitor and manage driver hours and utilization of hours with the agreed reference period and in line with WTD and RTR.
  • Investigate and report on accidents and incidents in line with company procedures.
  • Ensure effective communication to drivers through Toolbox Talks.
  • Identify areas for development and potential cost savings each year.
  • Develop effective internal and external relationships to ensure consistency of approach across regions.
  • Review and sign off driver timesheets to ensure payroll information is correct.
  • Monitor and investigate dropped loads and propose changes to eliminate future occurrences.
  • Undertake disciplinary, grievance, and absence management meetings as required.
  • Provide cover for other Driver Managers during their absence.
  • Undertake health and safety risk assessments as necessary.
  • Investigate and report on PCNs and NOIPs, and instigate appeal proceedings if possible.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working in the transport industry, specifically with LGVs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fuels sector and regulatory framework.
  • IT literate with good report writing skills.
  • Able to demonstrate successful management of drivers in a unionized environment.
  • Experience in dealing with performance issues.
  • International CPC Road Haulage qualification.
  • Experience/evidence of strong cost control capability.
