Overview

As a Conservation Ranger, you will be an advocate for environmental preservation and outdoor stewardship, playing a vital role in maintaining the cherished landscapes and ecosystems for both wildlife and the public.

This position may require working on weekends, public holidays, and evenings, as well as being available for on-call duties.



Work Environment

Reporting to the Property Operations Manager, you will collaborate with a dedicated team of 3 Rangers, an Assistant Ranger, and approximately 40 enthusiastic volunteers committed to conservation initiatives.

Your base will be at a historically significant forest, recognized as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a National Nature Reserve (NNR). The Ranger Team actively engages in traditional conservation practices such as grazing, coppicing, and pollarding, essential for preserving the diverse habitats and the cultural heritage of the landscape for future generations.



Key Responsibilities

Your role will involve safeguarding and nurturing habitats, wildlife, structures, and equipment. You will share your passion and knowledge to inspire others to appreciate this natural area as much as you do. Whenever you encounter visitors, you will take the opportunity to engage with them, addressing their inquiries thoughtfully.

You will ensure that the conservation efforts and outdoor activities on the land you oversee meet the highest standards. Building relationships within the local community will be essential, as you represent the organization and communicate the valuable work being undertaken by you and your colleagues.

Candidate Profile

  • Practical experience in conservation efforts aimed at enhancing and protecting habitats and landscapes.
  • Comfortable engaging with diverse individuals about your work and its significance.
  • Dedicated, hardworking, and eager to learn.
  • Capable of working safely, utilizing risk assessments, and adhering to guidelines.
  • Experienced in land management, access, and conservation, with a strong outdoor work background.
  • Proficient in operating machinery and equipment, holding relevant certifications.
  • A valid UK driving license.
