Conservation Ranger - Near Bishop Stortford

Overview

As a Conservation Ranger, you will be an advocate for environmental preservation and outdoor stewardship, playing a vital role in maintaining the beauty of our cherished landscapes for both wildlife and the public.

This position requires flexibility, including working on weekends, public holidays, and evenings, as well as being available for on-call duties.

Work Environment

Reporting to the Property Operations Manager, you will be part of a dedicated Ranger team consisting of three Rangers, an Assistant Ranger, and approximately 40 enthusiastic volunteers who assist with conservation initiatives.

Your base will be at Hatfield Forest, recognized as the finest surviving example of a small medieval Royal Hunting Forest in Europe. This 392-hectare site is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a National Nature Reserve (NNR). The Ranger Team actively engages in traditional practices such as grazing, coppicing, and pollarding, essential for preserving the habitats, landscape, and cultural significance of the Forest for future generations.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will involve protecting and maintaining habitats, wildlife, structures, and equipment. You will share your knowledge and passion to inspire others to appreciate this area as much as you do. Engaging with visitors, you will take the time to converse and address their inquiries rather than hastily moving to the next task.

Ensuring that conservation efforts and outdoor experiences on the land you oversee meet the highest standards will be paramount. You will foster relationships within the local community, proudly representing the Trust and informing them about the initiatives undertaken by you and your team.

Please refer to the complete role profile attached to this advertisement.
