We are looking for a Project Implementation Manager to enhance and cultivate the direct connections between the Advanced Propulsion Centre and our project partnerships.

The ideal candidate will serve as the project authority within the APC, acquiring a comprehensive understanding of the project's technical and commercial goals; the deliverables and milestones necessary to meet these goals, along with the potential risks and challenges that could impact this delivery.

The Project Implementation Manager will engage with a range of key players in the automotive, mobility, and related supply chain sectors within the UK, while also collaborating with funding delivery teams to provide project assistance and ensure successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management and Relationship Development:

  • Assist and collaborate on high-value R&D and capital initiatives, from proposal stage to successful completion.
  • Establish robust relationships with consortium partners and stakeholders.
  • Network with influential figures in the automotive sector and academia to enhance your capabilities.

Advocacy and Leadership:

  • Serve as an advocate for successful technical and commercial project results across all partner organizations into APC and the broader stakeholder community.
  • Participate in regular formal and informal meetings with project partners, leading discussions and presentations as necessary.

Progress Reporting and Risk Assessment:

  • Deliver precise reports on project progress, including key performance indicators and risk elements.
  • Comprehend detailed financial forecasts, incorporating risk profiles at the project level for in-year financial reporting.

Governance Support:

  • Collaborate closely with the Monitoring Service Provider appointed by Innovate UK and other delivery partners to ensure effective governance activities and clarity for the project.
  • Engage with the Department for Business and Trade to address inquiries regarding your project portfolio.

Technology Insight and Research Contribution:

  • Develop an understanding of key technologies being advanced during the project.
  • Stay updated on innovations in this field and provide research insights to the APC central team from your project partners.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate will ideally possess experience in some of the following areas:

  • Project and/or account management experience.
  • Engineering or Science education at the graduate level. A background in any of the following is advantageous: Energy Storage, Vehicle Energy Management, Electric Machines, Power Electronics, Automotive Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
  • Understanding of financial forecasting.
  • Experience collaborating with customer development teams on the introduction of new automotive technologies and processes with either OEMs or the supply chain.
  • Familiarity with new product development cycles, including understanding TRL/MRL challenges; early-stage research; and working with academia and partners throughout the supply chain.
  • Confidence in engaging with and reporting to senior and executive-level stakeholders.
  • Comfort in presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of the government funding landscape, with the ability and willingness to develop awareness of EU state aid law.
  • Interest in future technologies and market trends, and the ability to relate them to the UK automotive industry and the opportunities this could create.
