We are seeking a skilled Structural Engineer to join our team at Permanent Futures. The ideal candidate will have experience in using digital tools and programming languages to design and optimize building structures.
The role will involve applying Python programming and Parametric Design (Grasshopper) to a variety of building projects, specifically utilizing laser-cut steel. You will be responsible for developing in-house tools to design structurally optimized steel and reinforced concrete building components, verified using Eurocode 2/3 and finite element modeling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Concept to detail engineering design stages of buildings and their structural elements, using and developing in-house design, modeling, and analysis tools.
- Writing standard Eurocode-compliant hand calcs and embedding design code checks in the workflow.
- Producing CAD models in Rhinoceros, preparing and exporting models for laser-cutting, considering assembly and cost.
- Collaborating with clients and the design team to solve problems and provide updates on projects.
- Liaising with internal and external parties, including experimental testing facilities and universities.
- Developing own knowledge and ability, with a path to Chartership and continuous improvement activities to support business growth.
- Staying up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to enhance design practices and construction efficiency.
Requirements:
- Qualified to MEng degree (or BEng and Masters) in Civil/Structural engineering.
- Proven experience as a practising engineer would be a significant advantage.
- Competent in applying a programming language to solve problems (ideally in Python).
- Comfortable in using CAD software, with an emphasis on Parametric Modelling (Grasshopper/Dynamo).
- Strong background in structural mechanics/analysis, working from first principles and using Eurocodes.
- Ability to use finite element analysis to solve beam and shell models.
