About the Role

The Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC) is seeking an experienced Marine Engineer to fill the position of Offshore Maintenance Manager. This role will play a crucial part in ensuring the capability and availability of MSSC's offshore vessels, providing sea-going experience for cadets while ensuring the safety of all personnel on board.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Identify defects and safety shortcomings, determine solutions, and assist in rectification or organise cost-effective professional repairs.
  2. Produce, oversee, and track winter maintenance work packages for the fleet.
  3. Develop MSSC's Safety Management System, focusing on technical running and management of each offshore vessel.
  4. Assist engineer officers with maintenance tasks.
  5. Manage records to support and evidence MSSC's maintenance programme.
  6. Act as an occasional relief engineer on board any of the three larger vessels.
Requirements
  1. Engineer with HNC or similar professional qualification and significant experience in the maritime sector, including health and safety, marine equipment operation, engineering maintenance, refit planning, and execution.
  2. Broad engineering experience across mechanical, electrical, and electronic disciplines, with knowledge of small commercial or recreational vessel machinery, control, navigation, and communications systems.
  3. Experience in using and managing Electronic Planned Maintenance Systems.
  4. Effective liaison with ship and shore staff, external authorities, suppliers, and contractors.
  5. Health and fitness necessary to obtain an industry-recognised medical certification (ENG1).
  6. Experience working with young people.
