Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current GMC full registration & licence to practise, MRCP & entry on GMC specialist register for Gastroenterology or within 12 months of CCT date or within 12 months of expected Portfolio Pathway (previously CESR) approval.
  • Demonstrated independent clinical experience, knowledge, and skill in Gastroenterology at Consultant level.
  • CV must reflect the experience and competencies for this level/specialty.

As a Consultant in Gastroenterology, your expertise is vital for the provision of Endoscopy services throughout the hospital, particularly in diagnostic, therapeutic, and screening endoscopy.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with fellow healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standards of care are delivered to patients of all ages while providing clinical and educational support for junior Gastroenterologists.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

As a Gastroenterology Consultant, you will:

  • Provide comprehensive diagnosis, screening, treatment, preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of patient care.
  • Support patients and their families by communicating clinical information to clarify diagnoses and treatment options using various methods to ensure understanding.
  • Coordinate treatment plans and prescribe various types of therapies.
  • Monitor and care for patients consistently.
  • Engage with patients and the multidisciplinary team on shared decision-making.
  • Work within and, where appropriate, lead a multidisciplinary team.
  • Assess and prioritize patient/client needs, delegating effectively to others.
  • Recognize, review, and report on patient conditions and any changes to the patient and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Perform basic administrative tasks, such as maintaining records of test results, writing prescriptions, providing information to patients, and monitoring treatment plans.
  • Conduct research to develop and test surgical techniques and equipment that can enhance operating procedures and outcomes.
  • Assist in teaching and training junior doctors, medical students, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
