Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Current GMC full registration & licence to practise, MRCP & entry on GMC specialist register for Gastroenterology or within 12 months of CCT date or within 12 months of expected Portfolio Pathway (previously CESR) approval.
  • Demonstrated independent clinical experience, knowledge, and skill in Gastroenterology at the Consultant level.
  • CV must reflect the experience and competencies required for this specialty.

As a Consultant in Gastroenterology, your expertise is vital for the delivery of Endoscopy services across the hospital, focusing on diagnostic, therapeutic, and screening endoscopy.

In this role at the NHS trust, you will collaborate closely with fellow healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standards of care for patients of all ages, while also providing clinical and educational support to junior Gastroenterologists.

Main Responsibilities:

As a Gastroenterology Consultant, your duties will include:

  • Providing diagnosis, screening, treatment, and management of patient care preoperatively, operatively, and postoperatively.
  • Supporting patients and their families by effectively communicating clinical information regarding diagnoses and treatment options.
  • Coordinating treatment plans and prescribing various treatment modalities.
  • Monitoring and caring for patients consistently.
  • Engaging with patients and the multidisciplinary team to facilitate shared decision-making.
  • Leading and participating in a multidisciplinary team as appropriate.
  • Assessing and prioritizing patient/client needs, delegating tasks effectively.
  • Recognizing, reviewing, and reporting on patient conditions and any changes to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Performing administrative tasks, including maintaining records of test results, writing prescriptions, and monitoring treatment plans.
  • Conducting research to develop and evaluate surgical techniques and equipment to enhance procedural outcomes.
  • Teaching and training junior doctors, medical students, and other team members.
