Position Summary

As a Food Service Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing residents with nutritious and delicious meals while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals to residents, ensuring they are palatable, at the correct temperature, and served in appropriate portions.
  • Maintain a spotless kitchen environment by adhering to strict sanitation protocols and cleaning all equipment thoroughly.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and cooks by promptly notifying them of low food or supply inventory levels.
  • Receive, label, store, and inspect incoming food and supplies, ensuring they are properly stored in designated areas.
  • Prepare a variety of meals, snacks, and desserts that cater to regular, texture-modified, and therapeutic diets.
  • Set up dining areas by arranging tables, filling condiment containers, and delivering food to residents as needed.
  • Prioritize safety by immediately reporting any potential hazards to the supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and organized dining room by washing equipment, collecting and removing garbage from the kitchen.
  • Adhere to the assigned daily cleaning and work schedule diligently.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, committee meetings, and in-service training sessions as required.
  • Assist with updating residents' nutritional information as directed.
  • Contribute to maintaining accurate records for dietary operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Possess a valid Food Handler certificate.
  • Have experience in institutional, healthcare, restaurant, or hospitality food service settings.
  • Alternatively, meet the qualifications of a Cook, hold a post-secondary diploma in Food and Nutrition Management, or possess a post-secondary degree in Food and Nutrition.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) is preferred.
  • Be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Be capable of pushing/pulling a 500-pound food warming cart.
  • Be prepared for extended periods of standing, walking, and repeated bending.
