Job Title: Nuclear Safety Consultant

We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Safety Consultant to support the delivery of our Site program for the preparation and review of Safety Cases. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing radiological and chemotoxic safety assessment services and support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and modification of safety cases through authoring and verifying Safety Case documentation, including hazard identification, hazard assessments, deterministic and quantitative assessments, designation of proportionate safety measures, and ALARP justification.
  • Conduct radiological and chemotoxic safety assessments for both internal and external hazards.
  • Contribute to the development of Safety Case strategies and/or Safety Case arguments.
  • Liaise with engineering, plant operators, and other specialist safety disciplines to present coherent and comprehensive safety cases.
  • Support the Springfields Site Safety Case Process, including the Periodic Review program.
  • Support Site Personnel in the implementation of safety case limits and conditions.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • You will be a skilled and experienced radiological/chemotoxic safety assessor with excellent report writing skills and mentoring abilities.
  • Degree (min 2:2) in a relevant discipline or equivalent, with typically at least 3 years (SQEP 2) relevant nuclear safety experience.
  • Expertise in radiological/chemotoxic safety techniques.
  • Demonstrable experience of Safety Case production and management for all stages of plant lifecycle from concept design to decommissioning, hazard identification, fault analysis, Design Basis Accident (DBA) assessment, Barrier Analysis, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA), radiological/chemotoxic consequence assessment, development of safety functional requirements, ALARP assessment.
  • Knowledge of relevant UK regulations and standards.
  • Excellent customer service manner with strong listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible in approach to support effective delivery.
  • HAZOP Chair/Scribe experience would be an advantage.
  • Minimum SC Security Clearance.
