The unit is designed to support the treatment of adolescents dealing with conditions such as severe anxiety, depression, psychosis, and eating disorders. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering senior medical oversight and leadership within the unit.

As a Senior Psychiatrist in our CAMHS inpatient unit, you will collaborate with a skilled and established clinical multidisciplinary team. This role requires flexibility, visionary thinking, and strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with both patients and their families, while fostering professional relationships across various teams and agencies.

Key Responsibilities

The service is committed to providing timely assessments and interventions that facilitate the recovery journey of young patients, ultimately leading to their reintegration into local community CAMHS teams. Our goal is to minimize out-of-area placements, reduce the duration of inpatient stays, and enhance outcomes for young individuals.

Job Duties

This inpatient role encompasses 13 beds catering to the populations in the surrounding areas. Daily handovers and biweekly ward reviews are expected, along with the following responsibilities:

  • Management of intricate cases.
  • Clinical leadership within the team.
  • Assessment of referrals and admissions.
  • Formulation of care plans and treatment strategies, providing guidance on evidence-based practices.
  • Collaboration with other services and agencies.
  • Engagement in multidisciplinary and multi-agency partnerships.
  • Participation in both undergraduate and postgraduate clinical education.
  • Training and supervision of other disciplines.
  • Involvement in ongoing medical education within statutory limits.

Applicants must possess full registration with the GMC and be included on the GMC's Specialist Register or be Specialty Trainees nearing completion of their CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The ability to travel within the Trust's designated area with suitable transportation is essential.

Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Advanced degree in medical education, clinical research, or management. MRCPsych is preferred.
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Approved clinician status or the ability to obtain it within three months of appointment.
  • Good standing with the GMC regarding practice warnings and conditions.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty.
  • Strong clinical skills utilizing a bio-psycho-social approach.
  • Excellent communication abilities in both oral and written English.
  • Adept at managing clinical complexities and uncertainties.
  • Extensive specialist experience relevant to the role within the NHS or comparable services.
Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
  • Capability to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate education and training.
  • Experience in clinical research and/or service evaluation, with evidence of achievements in education, research, audit, and service enhancement.
