About the Role


We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Consultant Psychiatrist to join our dynamic team at the Inspire CAMHS inpatient unit, part of the Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for providing leadership and senior medical input to the unit, working as part of a confident and developed clinical MDT in our mental health inpatient unit for young people.


Key Responsibilities


The post holder will be involved in the following key areas:



  1. Management of complex cases, providing timely and appropriate assessment and intervention that facilitates the young person's progress on their recovery journey to affect discharge to the care of their local community CAMHS teams.
  2. Clinical leadership of the team, ensuring that the highest standards of care are maintained and that the team is supported in delivering excellent patient outcomes.
  3. Assessment of referrals and admissions, working closely with other services and agencies to ensure that young people receive the best possible care.
  4. Care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness, and participation in the training of other disciplines.
  5. Liaison and collaborative working with other services and agencies, including multi-disciplinary, multi-agency, and partnership working.
  6. Mental Health Act implementation, ensuring that the unit is compliant with all relevant legislation and guidelines.
  7. Participation in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching, sharing your expertise and knowledge with others to support the development of the next generation of healthcare professionals.
  8. Providing educational supervision of trainees and other disciplines, supporting their development and ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge needed to deliver high-quality patient care.
  9. Taking part in continuing medical education within statutory limits, staying up-to-date with the latest research and developments in the field and applying this knowledge to improve patient outcomes.

Person Specification


We are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist who has the following qualifications and experience:



  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment, included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months.
  • Approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months of appointment, approved under S12 or able to achieve within three months of appointment.
  • Excellent knowledge in the specialty, excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge, and excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty, with a wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the post within the NHS or comparable service.
  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training, with evidence of achievement in education, research, audit, and service improvement.
