Job Overview

The Alumni Relations and Communications Coordinator is responsible for delivering proactive and effective administrative assistance to the Alumni Office, focusing on alumni engagement and communication initiatives.

Reporting to the International Alumni Officer within the Adam Smith Business School Alumni Office, this role involves collaboration with various departments across the University, including External Relations, Central Communications, and the Careers Service. The post holder will specifically support Chinese-language social media efforts, public relations, and marketing activities directed at Chinese-speaking audiences, encompassing current and prospective students, alumni, and partner institutions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage the Chinese-language social media platforms for the Adam Smith Business School alumni team (e.g., WeChat and RED), implementing a comprehensive communication strategy and providing exceptional customer service to engage key Chinese-speaking stakeholders.
  2. Collaborate with the International Alumni Officer to establish an alumni RED account, develop a robust content strategy, and assist in enhancing social media channels in partnership with the Chinese Social Media Officer from Central Communications.
  3. Monitor social media interactions and correspondence for potential issues that may impact the institution's reputation, coordinating with the wider Communications and Public Affairs Office as necessary.
  4. Support the Adam Smith Business School's involvement in Higher Education rankings, including Financial Times and QS.
  5. Encourage participation among current and graduating students in Chinese alumni associations to strengthen alumni networks in key regions and foster professional and personal growth.
  6. Translate materials as needed between English and Mandarin.
  7. Assist with data management in Raisers-Edge.
  8. Perform any additional general duties as agreed with the International Alumni Officer.
Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • Strong educational background (VQ 2/3, Standard Grades, City and Guilds or equivalent).
  • Proficient in Chinese at a native level and English at a professional level (e.g., IELTS 7.5 or equivalent experience).
  • Ability to effectively convey information and ideas in both written and verbal formats in English and Chinese.
  • Understanding of the Chinese-language social media landscape and its applications.
  • Familiarity with the University of Glasgow and Scottish culture.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the Higher Education sector, particularly the University of Glasgow.
  • Understanding of Chinese culture, including the education system and university application processes.
Skills

Essential:

  • Excellent verbal communication abilities.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding alumni data.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional writing skills for both electronic and print communications.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills to handle a demanding workload.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Relevant experience in social media management (WeChat and RED), event planning, or public relations.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team environment.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a higher education context and student engagement.
  • Practical skills in video creation and editing.
  • Experience in copywriting.
Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 3, £21,900 - £22,681 per annum, pro rata.

This position is part-time (20 hours per week) and fixed-term for up to 1 year.
