Job Title: Support Worker for Young Lady with Special Needs


Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Worker to provide 1 to 1 support to a young lady with Downs Syndrome and Autism in an art, drama, and music workshop setting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1 to 1 support to the young lady in the art, drama, and music workshop, helping her to access group activities and engage with other staff members.
  • Monitor the young lady's responses to social stimuli and provide guidance and intervention when necessary to ensure her actions are appropriate.
  • Assist the young lady with reminders to wash hands or use sanitary towels when required, while maintaining her dignity and independence.
  • Fit in with the existing routine in the setting, including lunch and break times, and provide supervision during break times as needed.
  • Develop a good understanding of the young lady's communication style and learn to use Makaton or other sign language to support her communication needs.


Requirements:

  • Experience of working with individuals with special needs or in an educational setting with younger children.
  • Ability to be patient, calm, and kind, with a good sense of humor and a willingness to learn.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with other staff members and the young lady's family.
  • Enhanced DBS check required.
