Position Overview:
We are in search of an Associate or Senior Editor to enhance our editorial team. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in molecular biology or medicine, with a preference for those who have a keen interest in oncology or endocrinology. This role presents an exciting opportunity to engage in the editorial mission of BMC Medicine and collaborate with a vibrant team of editors responsible for managing original research submissions, selecting manuscripts, commissioning content, and representing the journal at international events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the content published in BMC Medicine by overseeing individual submissions and advising on content managed by editorial board members, ensuring relevance to the journal and selecting peer reviewers as directed by the Chief Editor.
- Collaborate closely with fellow editors throughout the editorial process, including identifying peer reviewers and overseeing the peer review process.
- Assist in the investigation and resolution of publishing or research ethics issues.
- Contribute to the strategic direction and policies of the journal, commission and edit various content types such as Reviews, Opinions, and Research Highlights, and represent the journal at conferences and institutional visits.
- Foster strong communication and relationships with Editorial Board Members and authors.
- Ensure all Editorial Board members are well-informed about the journal's ethos and editorial policies, providing necessary training and resources for their roles.
Qualifications and Skills:
- PhD or MD level education (or equivalent) in molecular biology or medicine, with a preference for candidates interested in oncology or endocrinology.
- Diverse scientific interests that extend beyond your specialty.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels.
- Capability to critically evaluate manuscripts across various topics for novelty, scientific merit, and implications.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills, balancing immediate deadlines with long-term objectives.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to represent BioMed Central at external events.
- Substantial editorial experience is required for consideration at the Senior Editor level.
