About the Role:

The Senior Product Compliance Manager is accountable for ensuring the quality and compliance of products sold by Hobbycraft. This includes monitoring suppliers' SEDEX compliance, product legal compliance, and risk mitigation. The successful candidate will work closely with suppliers, testing labs, and UK Government authorities to ensure product compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the business through product quality issues, ensuring that processes are followed and risks are mitigated.
  • Ensure suppliers comply with SEDEX and address any compliance issues flagged during audits in a timely manner.
  • Source high-quality vendors and work with agents and direct suppliers to deliver best practice documentation and compliance.
  • Negotiate and manage vendor contracts and rebates with key partners, including test labs, audit houses, and 3rd party compliance partners.
  • Develop and maintain Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) policies and procedures, ensuring they are up to date and adhered to.
  • Manage product recalls and removals from sale, ensuring all processes are followed and with Trading Director's approval.
  • Improve controls of returned and quarantined products with relevant stakeholders and monitor returns KPIs.
  • Develop Hobbycraft brand specification sheets for key lines to ensure clarity on product quality.
  • Maintain product compliance to updated standards and prepare the business for incoming regulatory changes.
  • Ensure Hobbycraft has suitable due diligence processes and appropriate ethical and environmental audits.
  • Manage audit schedules of Hobbycraft Own Brand suppliers.
  • Escalate non-conformances to senior leaders as appropriate.
  • Work with factories to encourage the implementation of more environmentally friendly processes.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience as a Compliance/Risk or Product Manager, preferably within a retail environment.
  • In-depth understanding of UK and EU testing requirements, especially UKCA.
  • Experience of managing product compliance.
  • Understanding of SEDEX ways of working and system.
  • Open and honest communicator with the skills to get buy-in and influence others.
  • Experience in identifying, proposing, and implementing improvements to processes.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to be methodical and diligent.
  • Effective problem solver with the ability to lead the team through product recalls/withdrawals.
