We are seeking a dedicated part-time Harm Reduction Outreach Coordinator to contribute to our mission at Humankind Charity.

Role Summary

Are you committed to enhancing the lives of individuals facing challenges related to substance use? Do you have a strong focus on harm reduction and a desire to assist those in need? If so, this position may be ideal for you.

As a Harm Reduction Outreach Coordinator, you will be integral to our efforts in promoting harm reduction strategies and engaging with individuals experiencing substance use issues and complex life situations.

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of various substances and the complexities encountered by individuals who use drugs.
  • Provide a diverse array of harm reduction services, including assertive outreach, naloxone distribution, needle exchange programs, blood-borne virus testing, overdose prevention, advocacy, assessments, and training.
  • Collaborate with housing organizations, shelters, pharmacies, health centers, and community services to deliver practical support.
  • Utilize exceptional communication skills to foster partnerships and work closely with multiple stakeholders.
  • Advocate for and engage individuals who use drugs, assisting them in accessing necessary support.
  • Enhance public understanding of substance use issues, trends, and harm reduction practices.
  • Work within a trauma-informed framework to provide empathetic care and support.
  • Engage with the broader community to mitigate the harms associated with alcohol and drug use.
  • Maintain flexible working hours, including potential weekend shifts, to accommodate the evolving needs of the service.

Qualifications for Success:
  • Thorough understanding of various substances and their impacts.
  • In-depth knowledge of the challenges faced by individuals living complex lives while using drugs.
  • Previous experience in harm reduction and related interventions is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is essential; access to a personal vehicle is advantageous.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • A genuine passion for supporting individuals with substance use challenges.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively with diverse community partners and stakeholders.
