Role Highlights: As an Advanced Physiotherapy Specialist, you will be instrumental in executing comprehensive assessments and discharge planning within the acute medical unit and initial care services. This role provides an excellent platform to demonstrate your clinical proficiency and leadership capabilities while collaborating with a diverse team of professionals. Your responsibilities will extend beyond the acute medical unit, allowing you to engage in initial geriatric services and subsequent medical wards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform evaluations and administer treatments for patients experiencing a variety of acute medical issues.
  • Work in partnership with hospital and community Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) to facilitate efficient patient transitions.
  • Offer expert guidance, leadership, and support to the physiotherapy team.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven clinical and leadership experience in physiotherapy.
  • Willingness to participate in the respiratory on-call rota and work a flexible schedule as necessary.
  • Desirable: Proficiency in the Welsh language.
  • Both Welsh and English speakers are encouraged to apply.

Primary Duties of the Role

Leadership and Service Provision:

  • Inspire the physiotherapy team with creativity and enthusiasm.
  • Deliver the Physiotherapy Service with excellence, contributing to the advancement of innovative patient care.

Caseload Management:

  • Oversee a caseload of patients with intricate needs, utilizing evidence-based and patient-centered approaches to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.

Mentorship and Oversight:

  • Provide motivational leadership for both junior and senior staff, offering mentorship, supervision, and constructive evaluations as directed by the line manager.

Collaborative Discharge Coordination:

  • Exhibit your advanced discharge planning abilities by working closely with the MDT and community services, ensuring a comprehensive and patient-focused approach to healthcare.

Educational Leadership:

  • Motivate the upcoming generation of physiotherapists by educating and supervising students during their clinical placements.

Continuous Professional Development (CPD):

  • Engage in ongoing learning and development, both clinically and professionally, to remain at the forefront of the field.
  • Respiratory On-Call Participation:
  • Actively engage in the on-call respiratory roster, contributing to the prompt and effective response to patient needs.

Service Development Initiatives:

  • Be a catalyst for service development initiatives, including the implementation of 7-day working, ensuring the delivery of healthcare services that adapt to the evolving needs of our community.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Physiotherapy (or equivalent qualification)
  • Professional Registration with HCPC
  • Evidence of post-graduate master's level education or equivalent clinical experience.

Desirable

  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
  • Membership in a clinical or professional network

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Extensive specialist experience working with this patient demographic.
  • Significant experience collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience supervising students, physiotherapy assistants, and junior staff.
  • Experience in areas related to patient flow.
  • Stay updated with advanced professional practices and new research.
  • Understand the legal responsibilities of the profession.
  • Significant NHS experience.

Desirable

  • Experience in team leadership.
  • Ability to work in various critical care and respiratory settings.
  • Experience in community healthcare settings.

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of comprehensive and advanced continuing professional development (CPD), maintained in a portfolio, including attendance at recent highly specialized postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical field/specialty.
  • Involvement in audit, research, and understanding quality issues.

  • Experience in service development.
