Assistant Practitioner

The role of an Assistant Practitioner in the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is to provide high-quality mammography services to patients. This involves undertaking mammography screening with precision and speed to a very high standard, ensuring that clients/patients receive the best possible care.
Main Responsibilities- Perform Mammography Examinations: Conduct all standard breast screening examinations at the base unit and at various community sites visited by the mobile breast screening unit.
- Ensure Diagnostic Imaging Quality: Use relevant knowledge and clinical experience to select the appropriate mammographic projections and exposures to ensure optimum diagnostic imaging.
- Client/Patient Care: Positively identify clients prior to mammographic procedures, record relevant details and current symptoms accurately, and provide a high level of care and support to all users of the service.
- Equipment Quality Control: Actively participate in equipment quality control and safety checks, documenting all test parameters and reporting any equipment faults or test results outside acceptable limits.
- Communication and Teamwork: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide the highest standards of patient care, communicate effectively with clients/patients, and promote the Breast Screening Service, breast awareness, and general health promotion.
- Training and Development: Undertake Continuing Professional Development, participate in mandatory and other relevant Trust training, and attend courses, conferences, or meetings as deemed necessary.
- Qualifications: Maths and English GCSE pass or equivalent.
- Desirable Criteria: Qualified Assistant Practitioner, experience working in a Breast Screening unit, and experience of data input and databases.
- Knowledge and Skills: Computer literate, good oral and written communication skills, ability to work within a team, and effective advocate for patients.
- Personal Attributes: Capacity to learn and willingness to study, ability to maintain confidentiality, and ability to provide flexibility in work hours.
