Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team, offering a permanent role for 36 hours per week, alongside a temporary position for 16 hours per week to cover maternity leave. This role is integral to the delivery of nursing services to our diverse patient population, collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to provide care within established practice guidelines.
The successful candidate will engage in various clinical responsibilities, including infection control, health promotion, chronic disease management, and supporting the management team in reviewing clinical policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Treatment Room Duties
- Conduct and manage patient consultations in scheduled treatment room sessions.
- Administer injections and provide childhood and travel immunizations.
- Perform ear syringing, dressings, and treatment of minor injuries.
- Assist medical professionals with minor surgical procedures and contraceptive device fittings.
- Offer telephone consultations and refer patients to appropriate team members as necessary.
- Participate in additional patient care activities, including chaperoning during intimate examinations.
- While phlebotomy is typically performed by healthcare assistants, the nurse may need to conduct venepuncture based on demand.
Chronic Disease Management and Health Promotion
Engage in chronic disease management and health promotion activities, tailored to the skills of the nurse. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting general assessments and providing lifestyle advice for patients with obesity.
- Performing assessments and ongoing monitoring for hypertensive patients.
- Carrying out annual reviews for patients with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, asthma, and COPD.
- Conducting cervical cytology and managing minor surgical procedures.
- Overseeing wound management and other relevant tasks linked to the Quality and Outcomes Framework.

As a Training Practice, we offer educational opportunities for all levels, from students to GP trainee registrars, and are actively involved in research initiatives. Regular educational meetings and daily coffee discussions foster a collaborative atmosphere.
Our team consists of ten GPs, three Practice Nurses, and two Healthcare Assistants, complemented by a Clinical Pharmacist, Social Prescriber, and specialists in Mental Health and Midwifery. Our administration team is multi-skilled, ensuring seamless coverage of roles.
