As a Planning & Development Manager, you will enhance our Estates division, which oversees a remarkably extensive and varied property portfolio, encompassing industrial, agricultural, residential, leisure, and commercial properties.

You will be engaged on a permanent contract with a competitive starting salary of £42,500, complemented by an array of excellent benefits, which include:

Key Responsibilities as Planning & Development Manager

Our Estates department plays a crucial role in facilitating this by ensuring that the evolving requirements of our business are addressed through the planning framework.

In this dynamic position, you will engage in a variety of stimulating planning and development initiatives, which may include (but are not limited to) minerals and waste planning, renewable energy projects, sustainability efforts, and commercial development ventures.

Your responsibilities will include securing planning approvals and managing initial development activities to support operational teams and enhance the value derived from the estate.

  • Collaborating closely with operational colleagues, you will frequently visit sites to explore and identify development prospects aimed at boosting efficiency and productivity.
  • Partnering with Estates colleagues and members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will pinpoint development opportunities within the non-operational commercial estate.
  • Working alongside the Estates Director, Head of Estates, other team members, and legal advisors, you will obtain the necessary legal agreements and statutory approvals to facilitate development.
  • In collaboration with the Projects, Engineering & Design (PED) team, you will formulate early-stage scheme designs, commission investigations, and lead both internal and external teams in managing planning applications, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Appeals, Local Development Framework submissions, and other land-use regulatory processes in support of the business.
Qualifications for the Planning & Development Manager Role
  • A valid UK driving license is essential, as regular site visits and attendance at public engagement events will be required.
  • A relevant degree and/or qualification recognized by the RTPI or RICS (or in progress).
  • A minimum of two years' experience managing a project team, ideally within the minerals and waste sector. Experience in land-related matters is advantageous.
  • Strong confidence and motivation, along with effective communication, exceptional organizational, negotiation, and analytical skills.
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week - 9am-5:30pm, Monday to Friday (flexibility may be required)
