Job Overview

As a Planning & Development Manager, you will enhance our Estates division, which oversees a remarkably extensive and varied property portfolio, encompassing industrial, agricultural, residential, leisure, and commercial properties.

This position offers a permanent contract with a competitive starting salary of £42,500 and an array of excellent benefits, including:

Key Responsibilities as Planning & Development Manager

Grundon's ongoing success is significantly attributed to its innovative and proactive approach, particularly in identifying creative avenues for future expansion.

The Estates department plays a crucial role in this process by ensuring that the evolving requirements of our business are addressed through the planning framework.

In this dynamic role, you will engage in a variety of stimulating planning and development initiatives, including (but not limited to) minerals and waste planning, renewable energy projects, sustainability efforts, and commercial development.

Your responsibilities will include securing planning approvals and managing preliminary development activities to support operational teams and enhance the value derived from the estate.

  • Collaborating closely with operational teams, you will frequently visit sites to explore and identify development opportunities aimed at improving efficiency and productivity.
  • Partnering with Estates colleagues and members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will pinpoint development prospects within the non-operational commercial estate.
  • Working alongside the Estates Director, Head of Estates, and legal advisors, you will obtain the necessary legal agreements and statutory approvals to facilitate development.
  • In conjunction with the Projects, Engineering & Design (PED) team, you will create initial scheme designs, commission investigations, and lead both internal and external teams in managing planning applications, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Appeals, Local Development Framework submissions, and other land-use regulatory tasks in support of the business.
Qualifications and Skills Required
  • A valid UK driving license is essential, as regular site visits and attendance at public engagement events will be necessary.
  • A relevant degree and/or qualification recognized by the RTPI or RICS (or working towards it).
  • A minimum of two years' experience managing a project team, ideally within the minerals and waste sector. Experience in land matters is advantageous.
  • Strong confidence and motivation, along with effective communication, excellent organizational, negotiation, and analytical skills.
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week - 9am-5:30pm, Monday to Friday (flexibility required)
