The Children and Young People's Sickle Cell Service is seeking an experienced and motivated Sickle Cell Disease Nurse to provide expert advice, education, support, and interventions to children and young people with Sickle Cell Disease and their families, improving care and quality of life.
About the Role:- Manage a patient caseload and provide oversight of clinical care with consultant supervision.
- Provide advice and support to all staff involved in the care of children and young adults with Sickle Cell Disease, focusing on health promotion and prevention of crisis.
- Act as an advocate for patients and staff, ensuring they receive the understanding and facilities they need to manage their condition.
- Communicate sensitive condition-related information to children and families in a caring, developmentally appropriate, and jargon-free manner.
- Provide and receive complex, sensitive, or contentious information, requiring persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic, or reassurance skills.
- Ensure safeguarding principles are always adhered to and contribute to safeguarding processes as required.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with staff supporting the needs of children with Sickle Cell Disease.
- Manage patient and professional queries over the telephone and face-to-face as appropriate.
- Assist in providing educational programs for children and families in relation to Sickle Cell Disease.
- Participate in audit activities to assess and monitor the quality of nursing practice in the specialist area.
- Develop protocols and guidance around the management of inpatient care in acute pediatric services.
- Take an active part in professional networks to ensure the exchange of knowledge and ideas.
- Participate in clinical supervision and reflective practice techniques.
- Supervise learners undertaking placements within the Children's Specialist Nursing Services.
- Assess and report any risk, clinical and non-clinical, for the benefit of self, colleagues, and clients.
- Maintain a high standard of clinical records on SystmOne.
- Organize own specialist workload and adjust daily diary according to priorities as they arise.
- Work autonomously without supervision, accountable for own professional actions.
- Deputise for the Clinical Nurse Specialist as required.
