About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sickle Cell Disease Specialist Nurse to join our team at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert care and support to children and young people with Sickle Cell Disease, as well as their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert assessment, planning, and evaluation of care for children and young people with Sickle Cell Disease
  • Offer advice and support to staff involved in the care of children and young people with Sickle Cell Disease
  • Act as an advocate for patients and staff, ensuring they receive the understanding and facilities they need to manage their condition
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with staff supporting the needs of children with Sickle Cell Disease
  • Manage patient and professional queries over the telephone and face-to-face

Requirements

  • Registered Children's Nurse with a Specialist Practitioner community qualification
  • Experience of caring for children and young people with Sickle Cell Disease in a community or acute setting
  • Knowledge of how chronic illness affects children and young people and their families
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel and work in a variety of settings across Hertfordshire
