Sickle Cell Nurse Specialist

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Sickle Cell Disease Nurse to join our team at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust. As a Sickle Cell Nurse Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing expert advice, education, support, and interventions to children and young people with Sickle Cell Disease and their families.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert assessment, plan, and evaluation of patient care in the specialist area of Sickle Cell Disease.
- Offer advice and support to all staff involved in the care of children and young adults with Sickle Cell Disease, focusing on health promotion and prevention of crisis.
- Act as an advocate for patients and staff, ensuring they receive the understanding and facilities they need to manage their condition.
- Communicate sensitive condition-related information to children and families in a caring, developmentally appropriate, and jargon-free manner.
- Participate in audit activities to assess and monitor the quality of nursing practice in the specialist area and assist in implementing changes based on findings.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with staff supporting the needs of children with Sickle Cell Disease, including paediatricians, GPs, school nurses, health visitors, therapists, education, and social care staff.
- Registered Children's Nurse
- First Degree in a relevant subject
- Community Qualification (Specialist Practitioner)
- Experience of caring for children with Sickle Cell Disease in a community or acute setting and knowledge of how chronic illness affects children and their families
- Experience of teaching and facilitation skills
- Proficient computer skills, including the use of MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel and work in a variety of settings across Hertfordshire
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Sound knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding processes
- Experience of joint working with other professionals
