Role Overview:
This position serves as the technical authority for all Instrumentation and Electrical installations across various capital projects. The role is pivotal in ensuring that all designs and implementations adhere to established engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all CAPEX designs and installations.
- Oversee contract Electrical and Instrumentation engineers, ensuring adherence to business standards.
- Manage the project EPC contractor to ensure compliance with site standards and provide timely responses to Technical Queries (TQs).
- Ensure all capital projects are appropriately scoped concerning any proposed Electrical and Instrumentation activities.
- Collaborate with Maintenance and Compliance teams to align Electrical and Instrumentation proposals with site requirements.
- Oversee budget management and reporting for all projects under your supervision.
- Ensure compliance with Functional Safety on capital projects, including verification of design, installation, and system certification.
- Assess new Electrical and Instrumentation equipment for Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality impacts, identifying necessary preventive maintenance tasks.
- Identify and order critical spares for new installations.
- Provide technical input to maintain and update current site standards in line with best practices.
- Effectively plan resources for all Electrical and Instrumentation activities on capital projects.
- Update IS calculations and loop drawings for all capital projects.
- Offer hands-on support during project handover phases.
- Facilitate training for operational teams on new installations.
- Ensure all project-related Electrical and Instrumentation activities meet qualification and quality obligations.
- Provide technical guidance across departments, including root cause analysis and troubleshooting of Electrical and Instrumentation issues.
- Offer ad-hoc technical support to maintenance and compliance teams for ongoing operational challenges.
- Undertake additional duties as reasonably assigned within the scope of expertise.
Scope of Role:
- The role encompasses Capital Projects across multiple sites.
- It involves projects with a planning horizon of 1-3 years and execution support for projects within a 0-12 month timeframe.
- Requires strong planning, organizational, and computer skills.
- Demands excellent multitasking and time management abilities.
- Involves collaboration with external contractors, internal teams, and operational departments.
- Responsible for project budgets that may exceed significant financial thresholds.
Special Considerations:
- May require extended hours or weekend work to meet critical project deadlines.
- Regular travel between sites may be necessary to monitor project progress.
Candidate Profile:
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified in Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control – preferably chartered.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering complex Electrical and Instrumentation engineering projects.
- Familiarity with permit to work systems, including working at height and confined spaces.
- Experience in project budget management and reporting.
- Proven leadership in managing a team of Electrical and Instrumentation engineers within a project environment.
- Experience with installations in hazardous areas (ATEX).
- Functional safety experience is desirable.
- NEBOSH or equivalent safety qualification is a plus.
- Experience in site commissioning and fault finding is essential.
Personal Skills and Competencies:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Proficient in computer applications (Word, OneNote, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Ability to engage effectively with external and internal contractors.
