Overview

Scottish Ministers are seeking to appoint up to two new Members of the Board of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). The appointments are for three years and will take effect from April 2024.

The Role

HIE is an ambitious organization with a vital role in supporting businesses and communities across the Highlands and Islands. The Board membership encompasses a range of skills, knowledge, and experience that reflect the diversity of the region and the breadth of HIE's remit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Setting strategic direction and making key decisions
  • Effective governance and oversight of HIE's operations
  • Representing the interests of the Highlands and Islands region
Requirements
  • Knowledge and understanding of the economic, cultural, and fiscal issues impacting the Highlands and Islands
  • Experience in strategy and long-term planning
  • Strong communication, influencing, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to analyze and scrutinize performance and delivery
Desirable Criteria
  • Knowledge of the wider context in which HIE operates, including net zero and green recovery
  • Understanding of the housing agenda in the context of economic growth
  • Ability to ensure the benefits of place-based inclusive growth across the entire region
