Position Overview

The Red Cell Immunohaematology division is dedicated to providing specialized reference and blood supply services to regional healthcare facilities through advanced techniques in red cell immunohaematology.

Your pivotal role in the processing, examination, preservation, and distribution of blood and blood derivatives will significantly impact the enhancement and preservation of patient health.

Key Responsibilities

As a Higher Healthcare Technical Officer (HHTO) within the RCI Reagents Production Laboratory, you will have the opportunity to acquire skills and train to become a vital member of our Reagents team. Your duties will encompass:

  • Assisting in the production, dispensing, and labeling of in vitro diagnostic products derived from blood donation components (red cells and plasma) along with various chemical substances.
  • Adhering to documented procedures and ensuring that the services provided align with established protocols and best practices, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail.
  • Executing both routine and non-routine tasks, some of which may involve repetitive actions.
  • Maintaining thorough documentation and accurate records throughout all aspects of your responsibilities.
  • Providing guidance and training to less experienced colleagues once you are trained and proficient in the tasks.
  • Handling equipment and materials daily, with weights up to 13 kgs, following appropriate training.
  • Participating in a shift work schedule that may include evenings, weekends, or public holidays.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Level 3 qualification such as A Levels or National Diploma in a relevant field, or extensive experience in a Clinical Laboratory, or equivalent substantial experience with routine NHSBT procedures and an understanding of non-routine processes.
  • A willingness to pursue further training and development opportunities.

  • Proficiency in using Information Technology, including Microsoft Office applications.
