About the Role
As a Diabetic Eye Screener, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the vision of individuals living with diabetes within Hertfordshire and West Essex. This patient-focused position is at the forefront of the NHS national screening program, dedicated to identifying and managing potential eye complications associated with diabetes.
Your Responsibilities
- Conduct assigned screening clinics as directed by the Programme Management team, ensuring the smooth operation of the Hertfordshire and West Essex Diabetic Eye Screening Programme.
- Collaborate effectively with administrative and medical staff to identify patients with specific needs (e.g., hearing difficulties, limited mobility) and ensure appropriate resources are available to meet their requirements.
- Prepare patients for retinal photography, including the instillation of mydriatic eye drops, and capture high-quality images that adhere to National Quality Assurance Standards.
- Demonstrate proficiency in grading retinal images, providing feedback to patients and their GPs, and actively participate in regular national standards audits.
About You
We are seeking a dedicated individual with a strong commitment to patient care. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build rapport with patients and effectively convey information about their eye health.
The ideal candidate will have a professional qualification in a health/social related discipline or equivalent education. While previous experience in eye screening is not mandatory, a willingness to pursue a recognized diploma course in Diabetes Eye Screening is essential.
A full, valid UK driving licence and access to a car for business use are required (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
