Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Midwife to join our team as a Matron for Low Risk and Community Maternity Services at Barts Health NHS Trust. This is a substantive post that requires a dynamic and enthusiastic individual who can lead and support our midwives and maternity support workers to deliver a modern, efficient, high-quality, safe service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have up-to-date clinical skills, leadership abilities, knowledge, and experience, and be familiar with current local and national strategies to improve safety and care in maternity. They will be a passionate advocate for women, birthing people, and their families, and have a strong ethos of midwifery care. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team colleagues and key internal and external stakeholders across the service.

Key Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years' experience of successful operational management at a senior level (band 7 or 8a) in an acute setting
  • Experience of management of multiple areas (wards/teams)
  • An understanding of the broader agenda facing the service and the ability to drive forwards significant change in practice
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write reports at Board level quality and deliver presentations and communicate effectively with colleagues and women/families. They will also have the ability to understand and analyse financial, numerical, and statistical data, and lead, develop, and motivate staff. A clear understanding and application of the principles of professional accountability and confidentiality are essential.
