About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic nurse to join our Safeguarding Children's Team at Darent Valley Hospital in a development capacity. This is an exciting opportunity for a trained nurse to develop their knowledge and skills in safeguarding practice, while being supported in a safe and nurturing multidisciplinary environment.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Identify vulnerable children, young people, and families early and provide effective plans of support and care that protects and promotes their health and wellbeing.
  2. Recognise situations that may be detrimental to health and wellbeing of individuals and family members.
  3. Develop the knowledge and skills required to make accurate assessments of risk and harm.
  4. Learn what constitutes an effective social care referral so that the appropriate level of support can be offered to children and families in need.
  5. Support the Safeguarding Liaison Sister in the assessment of children presenting to our Paediatric Emergency Department and Paediatric Assessment Unit.
Requirements
  • Registered nurse with NMC.
  • Awareness and understanding of concepts and developments in relation to safeguarding children.
  • Postgraduate experience as a nurse.
  • Basic knowledge of safeguarding.
  • Registered Children's nurse with NMC.
  • Understanding of child development.
  • Experience of safeguarding practice, particularly in children.
Person Specification

This role requires a sound working knowledge of child development, an inquiring mind, and the beginning of critical thinking. Excellent communication skills are also essential.
