Position Summary

The Environmental Sustainability Lead will play a crucial role in advancing a more eco-friendly railway system.

Collaborating with the Sustainable Rail Principal and technical specialists, you will create innovative solutions, tools, and services to assist the rail sector in Great Britain in implementing the Sustainable Rail Blueprint.

This position necessitates fostering strong partnerships with the Department for Transport, the Office for Rail and Road (ORR), and various industry organizations to weave sustainability into industry practices, frameworks, and initiatives.

By engaging with our stakeholders, you will discern their requirements and explore new avenues to integrate sustainability within the rail sector, including enhancing our sustainability training offerings.

Key Responsibilities


You will ensure a unified approach to the Sustainable Rail Blueprint throughout the rail sector, promoting a comprehensive strategy to sustainability issues and pinpointing shared solutions.

You will oversee a portfolio of sustainable rail tools and services, liaise with industry leaders to prioritize initiatives, and stay informed about sustainability practices in other industries.

Working alongside internal teams, you will aid in the development and execution of projects, leverage digital innovations for creative solutions, and cultivate consensus among senior industry leaders through the Sustainable Rail Groups.

Additionally, you will execute projects, maintain stakeholder engagement, secure funding, and deliver clear, precise communications regarding sustainability.

Qualifications


You should possess expertise in sustainable development, supported by a relevant degree or professional accreditation with IEMA or equivalent industry experience.

Proven experience in implementing sustainability strategies, developing solutions, or managing change initiatives is essential. Strong interpersonal skills are vital for influencing and building consensus among stakeholders. Experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects in a commercial environment is required.

Moreover, you should be an analytical thinker capable of identifying strategic and tactical pathways for implementation, and possess a collaborative mindset to work effectively within a team and across diverse stakeholders.
