Job Summary:
LanguageLine Solutions is seeking a highly skilled British Sign Language (BSL) Support Specialist to join our team. As a BSL Support Specialist, you will play a critical role in facilitating communication between BSL and English speakers in a variety of industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality video interpreting services, ensuring accurate and complete interpretations of verbal and non-verbal messages.
- Exhibit excellent interpreting skills and professional attitude while interpreting, maintaining impartiality and unbiasedness.
- Manage the flow of video calls, avoiding unnecessary interactions with service users without client permission.
- Stay up-to-date with industry-specific terminology and protocol, including medical, court, insurance, and government agencies.
- Provide exceptional customer service, using appropriate tone, patience, and courtesy when interacting with clients and service users.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with Contractor Liaison, the Interpreter Resource Centre, and other departments as needed.
- Demonstrate dependability and commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
Requirements:
- Be a Registered Sign Language Interpreter (RSLI) with the National Register for Communications Professionals working with Deaf and Deaf blind people (NRCPD) and provide evidence of re-registration on a yearly basis.
- Hold an MA, Post Graduate Diploma, or NVQ Level 6 or equivalent in BSL/English Interpreting and Translating, as well as a Level 6 or honors degree level or equivalent in the second language (typically BSL).
- Have sufficient experience in public sector BSL interpreting, with evidence available on request.
- Be competent in Microsoft Office.
- Have a home office that provides space for a backdrop of 5 ft by 7 ft and a desk and chair, with cable or fiber optic services preferred.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Competency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience in delivering training.
- Experience in quality control/performance review of others.
