Interdisciplinary Studies Assistant Professor

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies to join our faculty at Norfolk State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Interdisciplinary Studies, critical thinking, globalization, and linguistics, as well as engaging in research and scholarship.
Key Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate courses in Interdisciplinary Studies with specialization in critical thinking, globalization, and/or linguistics.
- Teach undergraduate courses in critical thinking, globalization, linguistics, and/or research methods.
- Engage in exemplary face-to-face and online teaching.
- Actively engage in research/scholarship.
- Actively pursue grants and participate in grant work.
- Serve on departmental, college and university committees and participate in meaningful service for the university community.
- Attend departmental meetings, collegially engage with faculty and meet university deadlines.
- Must possess a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies, Cultural Studies, or African-American Studies.
- Demonstrated record of teaching in the area of Interdisciplinary Studies or Cultural Studies, and the following areas: critical thinking, globalizations and linguistics.
- Demonstrated record of teaching research methods courses.
- Experience with online teaching and the use of online learning management systems (Blackboard LMS or similar).
- Experience with or strong evidence of potential commitment to excellence in teaching.
- Experience with or strong evidence of potential commitment to excellence in scholarship.
- Experience with or strong evidence of potential commitment to excellence in department and university service.
- Demonstrated or evidence of strong potential for successful student advisement.
- Evidence of established externally funded, competitive, and independent research appropriate for a teacher-scholar at the rank of assistant professor.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, personal integrity and a demonstrated commitment to diversity.
- Considerable experience teaching in higher education.
- Considerable experience (2 or more years) teaching online using LMS such as Blackboard.
- Considerable experience collegiate advising.
Candidates must include a diversity statement that reflects their commitment to diversity and inclusion and details their experience working in diversity initiatives and/or with students from underrepresented groups.
