Position Overview

The Medical Physics Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS) is seeking a skilled Clinical Equipment Maintenance Specialist to contribute significantly to our operations. This role is essential in ensuring that we meet our service goals in a fast-paced and technically demanding environment, adhering to an ISO9001 quality framework.

The ideal candidate will possess strong self-management skills and the ability to prioritize daily tasks effectively, ensuring timely completion of repairs, scheduled maintenance, and equipment management responsibilities. This position also involves participation in the on-call service for blood gas analyzers, with maintenance activities conducted both on-site and at various client locations.

Candidates should hold a Degree or HNC in Electronics or a related field, with prior experience in servicing intricate medical devices, focusing on their safety and operational effectiveness. Opportunities for technical training updates will be provided.

A commitment to safety and the ability to communicate proficiently with individuals at all levels are essential. The role requires resilience under pressure, adaptability, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Familiarity with equipment databases and relevant IT skills will be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Engineering team is dedicated to delivering repair, calibration, and maintenance services for a diverse array of diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment across our healthcare facilities. It is our responsibility to ensure that all equipment functions effectively and safely, minimizing downtime.

The successful candidate will be tasked with:

  • Serving as a specialist engineer for various medical devices.
  • Managing assigned tasks efficiently, including overseeing junior staff to meet service objectives.
  • Working independently to prioritize and manage personal and team workloads, exercising a significant degree of responsibility.
  • Organizing and executing unsupervised maintenance and repairs in critical care and surgical environments.
  • Collaborating with the Section Lead and Senior Clinical Technologists to develop and maintain maintenance schedules for high and medium-risk medical equipment.
  • Conducting preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on essential medical devices.
  • Effectively communicating with clinical staff to schedule maintenance and understand equipment issues, assessing the urgency of reported problems.
  • Applying fault-finding techniques to diagnose issues stemming from user error, equipment malfunction, or environmental factors.
  • Performing modifications on complex multi-module medical devices as per manufacturer specifications and addressing any recommendations from regulatory notices.
  • Coordinating the return of repaired equipment to clinical users, considering urgency and departmental targets.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • A Degree in electronic or clinical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in servicing, repairing, and calibrating medical equipment.

Desirable

  • Membership in the Voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists.
  • Technical registration with a recognized engineering institution.
  • Experience with quality management systems such as ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 13485:2012.
  • Specialized training in the maintenance and repair of various medical devices.
  • Proficiency in information technology.
