About the Position

Balfour Beatty presents an exceptional opportunity for a Construction Project Leader to join our esteemed Power T&D division.

Your primary responsibility will be to orchestrate, oversee, and execute the project in a safe and sustainable manner, adhering to the established timeline, budget, and quality standards.

You will hold full accountability for the successful execution of the project, which encompasses planning, design, implementation, monitoring, commissioning, and final handover.

Your role will involve providing guidance and leadership to foster an environment where a diverse project team can excel and collaborate towards a unified objective.

It is essential to ensure effective management of client relationships and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct regular project evaluations and update the Digital Briefcase accordingly. Ensure the team maintains precise project documentation (progress reports, daily logs, etc.). Prepare and deliver both internal and external reports while liaising with stakeholders. Demonstrate the ability to comprehend technical explanations and provide insights. Manage teams to guarantee that tasks are achievable and on schedule. Critically assess designs and challenge inputs and deliverables as necessary. Ensure reports deliver pertinent information to facilitate informed, cost-effective decisions aligned with the overarching business strategy. Maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm and stay updated with legislative changes. Be accountable for the safety and well-being of the public, employees, and supply chain. Conduct Safety & Environmental Tours and promote safety initiatives. Lead investigations into accidents and incidents. Monitor the effectiveness of the Health & Safety Management System and implement necessary improvements. Review and approve Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) from subcontractors. Develop a Health & Safety plan and ensure it remains a dynamic document. Empower teams to assign work effectively. Mentor and upskill team members. Coordinate and oversee all project activities and internal functions. Identify and manage resources to ensure successful project delivery. Create, implement, and update resource allocation plans, raising requests as needed. Develop plans for the team to meet objectives and aspirations. Cultivate high-performing teams, promote talent development, and support internal training through guidance and motivation. Lead risk and opportunity assessments, maintain the Risk Register, and recommend/implement changes. Document and escalate unresolved issues beyond your delegated authority. Manage subcontractors, including monitoring attendance and progress, providing direct support as necessary to meet contractual obligations. Ensure procurement plans align with overall project timelines, facilitating timely delivery of materials and resources. Ensure all work is conducted with a focus on handover and certification. Be accountable for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in line with project goals and monitor overall performance. Ensure assurance activities (audits) are conducted and respond appropriately to findings.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Essential Qualities/Experience:

Proven experience managing a variety of project types. Demonstrated track record of successful project delivery. In-depth knowledge and practical experience with standard contract forms. Proficient in commercial and project management communication. Experience in implementing safe work systems. Effective verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels. Ability to convey new concepts and ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong team management skills that empower, influence, and inspire others. Solid understanding of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics. Proven solution-oriented approach to problem-solving. Ability to articulate the business vision and inspire the team towards a shared goal. Confidently discuss ideas and plans. Advocate for project diversity and inclusion. Recognize and pursue personal development with a growth mindset. Membership in a professional management organization, such as APM. Proficient in O365 applications. Valid driving license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Formal project management qualification or equivalent experience. CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent certifications.
