Position Title: Mass Properties Specialist

Location: Flexible working arrangements available

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather and analyze mass property information for systems and equipment to ensure effective weight and centroid management on high-value submarine projects.
  • Assist the Mass Properties Lead in compiling weight and centroid assessments and communicate findings to senior engineering leadership.
  • Work collaboratively with design engineers to accurately predict mass, centroid, and design readiness of various mechanical and electronic systems.
  • Maintain an extensive database of mass property data for components.
  • Contribute to and spearhead initiatives aimed at weight reduction, while tracking weight-related risks and opportunities across disciplines.
  • Examine CAD models to estimate mass properties and assess associated uncertainties.
  • Employ statistical methods to present a comprehensive overview of weight risks and opportunities to senior management and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Degree in a STEM field or substantial relevant experience.
  • Professional engineering status (CEng/IEng) or a clear path to achieving such recognition.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with large-scale, intricate electrical or mechanical systems.
  • Background in data analysis, including data interpretation, visualization, manipulation, and presentation.
  • Familiarity with CAD software and related tools.

About the Weight Engineering Team:

The Weight Engineering Team comprises a diverse group of engineers and data scientists dedicated to estimating, compiling, and presenting mass property data for various high-value submarine programs. This specialized team plays a crucial role in the overall design and safety assurance of submarine projects. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates across all submarine roles.
