Research Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our Capripoxvirus Biology Group at The Pirbright Institute. As a pivotal member of our team, you will play a crucial role in delivering an excellent research programme.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out experimental research on Capripoxvirus biology, including the development and optimisation of novel and robust tools for the genetic engineering of Capripoxviruses. You will work in a safe and efficient manner, maintaining high-quality records of experimental procedures and datasets, and reporting findings and progress at periodic individual and group meetings.
Key Responsibilities- Design, perform, and analyse experiments to develop and optimise tools for genetic engineering of Capripoxviruses.
- Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and datasets.
- Report findings and progress at regular meetings.
- Work safely and efficiently in high-containment facilities.
- Engage in scientific community activities, including attending seminars and presenting research.
- PhD or equivalent in virology, microbiology, immunology, or a related field.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in virological techniques, including plaque assay and reverse genetics systems.
- Experience working with pathogenic agents in high-containment facilities.
- Experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques, including western blotting and quantitative PCR.
