Job Title: Dispensing Optician

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Dispensing Optician to join our team at Contract Personnel Limited. As a key member of our practice team, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional dispensing services, ensuring customer satisfaction, and contributing to the success of our business.

Key Responsibilities:

Dispensing:

  • Ensure accurate and appropriate dispensing of prescriptions issued as a result of an eye examination.
  • Select lenses and frames to best suit the prescription and the customer's lifestyle.
  • Check orders received from Optical Technicians, if required.
  • Establish suitability and accuracy of lenses using the focimeter.
  • Fitting the customer with their final spectacles and making appropriate adjustments.
  • Offering the customer general advice and guidance.
  • Implementing minor repairs to frames.
  • Carrying out retinal photography, tonometry, and visual field tests supplementary to an eye examination and alerting the optometrist to any unusual or abnormal features identified through these processes.
  • Undertaking colorimetry activities where appropriate, including the use of the colorimetry machine for density, hue, and color checks, and colored overlays.
  • Keeping appropriate records and reporting to the Practice Manager/Directors, as required.

Selling & Customer Relationship Management:

  • Maximizing sales while minimizing costs to ensure the achievement of specified margins and targets.
  • Ascertaining the wants and needs of each customer.
  • Recommending, selecting, and helping locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and wants.
  • Describing merchandise and explaining its use, benefits, operation, and care to customers.
  • Maintaining knowledge of current sales and promotions as well as policies regarding payment, exchanges, and security.
  • Serving customers and bagging and packaging purchases.
  • Observing and identifying security risks and theft and preventing and attending to these occurrences appropriately.
  • Ensuring that the practice provides excellent customer service at all times, meeting and, where possible, exceeding customer expectations.
  • Answering telephones and dealing with enquiries and appointments.
  • Managing enquiries, complaints, refunds, etc., as required.

Dispensing Optician – Job Description Team:

  • Implementing the policies and procedures set out in the Employee Handbook.
  • Contributing to positive working relationships within the teams.
  • Being aware of the needs of team members and showing them courtesy.
  • Communicating effectively with others in the team.
  • Working collaboratively with team members and management colleagues in order to meet the objectives of the business.
  • Putting forward ideas and feedback during team meetings in order to improve ways of working.

Health & Safety / Environmental Health:

  • Implementing the legal obligation to maintain a safe working environment at all times.
  • Following the company's procedures, as described in the Health & Safety Policy.
  • Reporting anything unsafe to the Practice Manager and reporting accidents, near misses, and so on, in the accident book.

Other Tasks:

  • Representing the company at events, etc., as required.
  • Undertaking any other tasks that may be reasonably requested.

Requirements: To be successful in this role, you will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong understanding of customer needs, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. You will also need to be able to maintain accurate records and report to the Practice Manager/Directors, as required.
