Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Dispensing Optician to join our team at Contract Personnel Limited.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate and appropriate dispensing of prescriptions issued as a result of an eye examination.
- Select lenses and frames to best suit the prescription and the customer's lifestyle.
- Check orders received from Optical Technicians, if required.
- Establish suitability and accuracy of lenses using the focimeter.
- Fit the customer with their final spectacles and make appropriate adjustments.
- Offer the customer general advice and guidance.
- Implement minor repairs to frames.
- Carry out retinal photography, tonometry, and visual field tests supplementary to an eye examination and alert the optometrist to any unusual or abnormal features identified through these processes.
- Undertake colorimetry activities where appropriate, including use of the colorimetry machine for density, hue, and color checks, and colored overlays.
- Keep appropriate records and report to the Practice Manager/Directors, as required.
Selling & Customer Relationship Management:
- Maximise sales while minimising costs to ensure the achievement of specified margins and targets.
- Ascertain the wants and needs of each customer.
- Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and wants.
- Describe merchandise and explain its use, benefits, operation, and care to customers.
- Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions as well as policies regarding payment, exchanges, and security.
- Serve customers and bag and package purchases.
- Observe and identify security risks and theft and prevent and attend to these occurrences appropriately.
- Ensure that the practice provides excellent customer service at all times, meeting and, where possible, exceeding customer expectations.
- Answer the telephones and deal with enquiries and appointments.
- Manage enquiries, complaints, refunds, etc., as required.
Dispensing Optician – Job Description:
- Implement the policies and procedures set out in the Employee Handbook.
- Contribute to positive working relationships within the teams.
- Be aware of the needs of team members and show them courtesy.
- Communicate effectively with others in the team.
- Work collaboratively with team members and management colleagues in order to meet the objectives of the business.
- Put forward ideas and feedback during team meetings in order to improve ways of working.
Health & Safety / Environmental Health:
- Implement the legal obligation to maintain a safe working environment at all times.
- Follow the company's procedures, as described in the Health & Safety Policy.
- Report anything unsafe to the Practice Manager, and report accidents, near misses, and so on, in the accident book.
Other Tasks:
- Represent the company at events, etc., as required.
- Undertake any other tasks that may be reasonably requested.
Requirements:
- Experience in dispensing optician roles.
- Knowledge of optical principles and practices.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with optical software.
