Role OverviewThe Deputy Manager – Offsite Services plays a pivotal role in the successful implementation of Blue Cross's equine rehoming and fostering initiatives. This position is essential in cultivating a supportive environment that empowers teams and prioritizes the efficient matching of horses with appropriate services, ultimately maximizing the number of horses assisted by 2026.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn this significant position, you will be responsible for achieving equine-related objectives while ensuring your team, which includes Regional Adoptions Facilitators, a Foster Yard Coordinator, and volunteers, maintains high standards of horse welfare and complies with national protocols. Your leadership and motivation will be crucial in delivering exceptional off-site horse care and development opportunities.
Daily tasks will include:
  • Overseeing offsite operations, ensuring the handling and training of horses as required.
  • Collaborating with the Volunteer Coordinator to enhance offsite services and establish regions of remote volunteers to assist with adoptions and post-adoption follow-ups.
  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure horses are promptly prepared for adoption, including conducting timely assessments and training.
As part of the Rolleston rehoming centre, you will also participate in local arrangements for overnight checks and shared duties among team members.
Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate will possess substantial management experience, particularly in equine welfare, and will be adept at driving team performance while addressing any areas of underperformance. Your ability to lead a team of Regional Adoptions Facilitators and a Foster Yard Coordinator through effective management and coaching will be essential.
Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Extensive experience in team management.
  • Proven track record in delivering high-quality customer service in a dynamic environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of horse welfare and handling.
  • Experience in a horse rescue or welfare setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in developing and mentoring operational teams.
  • Demonstrated decision-making capabilities.
  • Current full driving license.
  • Ability to embody and apply the values of Blue Cross.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience in performance management and improvement.
  • Change management experience.
  • Experience in delivering training and presentations to large groups.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Qualifications in management, leadership, or coaching.
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues.
