Lead Systems Engineer for Warhead Projects

AWE Plc is seeking skilled and driven professionals to spearhead and implement Systems Engineering methodologies across mechanical, electronic, processing, safety, security, or nuclear initiatives, while advancing their careers within our organization.
The Warhead Systems Engineering Division is responsible for the design, coordination, integration, and verification of Nuclear Warheads and their supporting systems to fulfill both current and anticipated customer needs. We oversee the entire lifecycle of these systems, ensuring safety, performance, and ongoing maintenance, while collaborating with the Ministry of Defence and other key defence stakeholders to provide a cohesive solution. This role is office-based due to the sensitive nature of the work.
Role Summary: Principal & Senior Systems Engineers (Trident & Replacement Warhead)
Location: Reading area
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the fulfillment of requirements, conceptual and detailed designs, manufacturing specifications, operational documentation, and validation evidence for engineering solutions across various lifecycle stages.
- Leading and nurturing partnerships with stakeholders.
- Facilitating the training and growth of junior engineers through both formal and informal mentoring.
- Employing systems thinking to tackle complex challenges and drive constructive improvements.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- HNC/HND or degree in a relevant science or engineering field, or substantial experience in a comparable role.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering engineering projects with a focus on quality, timelines, and budget.
- Strong analytical capabilities and problem-solving aptitude.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with teams and share critical information.

Trident: Responsible for the lifecycle management of our operational Trident deterrent, ensuring system health, gathering essential surveillance data, evaluating impacts of new design modifications, maintaining product quality, and supporting broader programs.
Replacement Warhead: Tasked with developing an effective future system design, focusing on early lifecycle context and requirement derivation, generating and refining design options, and addressing verification risks across all products.

Candidates must be prepared to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for this position and may be required to travel within the UK and internationally as needed.
