Position Overview

AWE Plc is seeking dedicated and skilled professionals to spearhead and implement Systems Engineering methodologies across mechanical, electronic, processing, safety, security, or nuclear initiatives, while advancing their careers within our organization.

The Warhead Systems Engineering Team is responsible for the design, coordination, integration, and verification of Nuclear Warheads and their supporting systems to fulfill both current and prospective customer needs. We oversee the entire lifecycle of these systems, ensuring safety, performance, and maintenance, while collaborating with the Ministry of Defence and other key defense partners to deliver comprehensive solutions. This role is office-based due to the sensitive nature of the work.

Role: Principal & Senior Systems Engineers (Trident & Replacement Warhead)

Location: Reading area

Salary: £47,690 - £80,000 (dependent on experience)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the execution of requirements, conceptual designs, detailed engineering specifications, operational documentation, and validation evidence for engineering solutions across various lifecycle stages.
  • Managing and fostering stakeholder relationships.
  • Facilitating the training and growth of junior engineers through both formal and informal mentoring.
  • Employing systems thinking to address complex challenges and drive constructive change.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • HNC/HND or degree in a science or engineering discipline, or substantial experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering engineering projects with a focus on quality, timelines, and budget.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with teams to share and acquire critical information.

Trident - Overseeing the lifecycle management of our operational Trident deterrent, ensuring system health, collecting essential surveillance data, evaluating new design modifications, maintaining product quality, and supporting broader program initiatives.

Replacement Warhead - Tasked with developing an effective future system design, including early lifecycle context and requirement derivation, generating design options, and managing verification risks across all products.
