Tadley, Hampshire, United Kingdom AWE Plc Full time

AWE Plc is seeking a qualified Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide expert engineering services across our facilities and equipment.

This role presents a unique chance to leverage your skills in delivering engineering solutions throughout the operational lifecycle of our assets, while benefiting from outstanding training and professional development opportunities.

Location: Aldermaston, Berkshire

Compensation: £47,690 - £66,000 + Allowance

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Utilizing your extensive knowledge in mechanical building services and related systems to ensure the effective delivery of engineered solutions during the operational lifecycle. This includes reviewing or creating modification packages, managing plant changes, and acting as an informed client in the procurement of engineering services or products. You will also mentor and guide colleagues in these areas.
  • Demonstrating leadership by identifying business risks or opportunities related to the condition of engineered systems and structures, prioritizing safety, regulatory compliance, quality, and reliability. You will provide counsel to colleagues and senior stakeholders accordingly.
  • Taking charge of engineering challenges or opportunities. You will plan, manage, and collaborate to develop safe and effective solutions that meet program requirements and societal obligations. Additionally, you will assist in setting strategic priorities and managing resources to ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks.
  • Offering advice, updates, and supporting documentation to stakeholders, including Senior Leadership, Operations Management, and other relevant parties. You will maintain and develop extensive domain knowledge and subject matter expertise.
  • Complying with Company Management System requirements, relevant Technical Standards & Legislation, and business controls, while also advising and overseeing others in these matters. You will influence or propose the development of processes, exemplifying professional, ethical, and courteous conduct.
  • Overseeing the application of Maintenance & Reliability Principles, reviewing outputs from Failure Modes & Effects Analysis, and analyzing relevant metrics to contribute to Key Performance Indicators and other reporting as necessary. You will assist in Reliability Centred Maintenance planning and perform Root Cause Analysis.
  • Engaging in both compensated and non-compensated secondary roles, providing various advisory or support capabilities, particularly in a senior or delegated authority capacity.

We are particularly interested in candidates who possess:

  • Extensive experience in Mechanical building services (HVAC, water systems, etc.) and industrial processes (compressed gases, pneumatics, hydraulics, steam, packaged units, lifting equipment, cryogenics), along with a solid understanding of associated electrical and control systems.
  • A comprehensive awareness of relevant legislation, supporting ACOP, best practices, and common industry standards.
  • Experience in higher hazard or regulated industries (e.g., nuclear, petrochemical, pharmaceutical).
  • A background in leading projects or tasks, and/or supervising, influencing, or mentoring junior engineers or stakeholders.
  • Membership in an engineering institution and/or status as an Incorporated/Chartered Engineer or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as an installer or maintainer is advantageous, although this role is more aligned with consultancy services rather than hands-on technical tasks.

We welcome applications from individuals with a minimum qualification of L4 NQF (HNC) and suitable additional experience (a degree in an engineering discipline and chartership is desirable), who are eager to advance their careers in a company that offers exceptional training and development opportunities.
