Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Planner to join our team at Essex County Council. As a key member of our Growth and Infrastructure Team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation planning in our region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement transportation plans and policies that support the growth and development of our communities.
  • Work closely with local planning authority teams to ensure that transportation infrastructure is integrated into development proposals.
  • Provide expert advice on transportation planning and policy to stakeholders, including developers, local authorities, and community groups.
  • Manage and coordinate the development and implementation of major transportation projects, including statutory processes and consultations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the council to ensure that transportation planning is aligned with broader economic and social objectives.

Requirements

  • Degree-level education in a relevant field, such as transportation planning, urban planning, or civil engineering.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in transportation planning, with a strong understanding of transportation policy and practice.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to a variety of audiences.
  • Good understanding of town and country planning processes, major development proposals, and highway and transportation project implementation.
  • Demonstrable understanding and experience in using project management methodologies.
