About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our dynamic team in the Emergency Department at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the smooth operation of our busy department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Supervise and mentor junior staff to ensure they have the knowledge, skills, and resources to provide high-quality patient care.
    • Develop and implement plans of care, ensuring high standards of evidence-based practice.
    • Collaborate with the senior team to ensure the needs of patients are met through the delivery of high-quality care.
  • Patient Care
    • Undertake unsupervised assessments of patient care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care.
    • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing empathy and reassurance regarding assessment, care, and treatment.
    • Maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records using appropriate documentation.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration
    • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to promote good communication and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
    • Participate in the audit of the principles of the Essence of Care benchmarking process and implement action plans as required.
Requirements
  • Education and Qualifications
    • 1st level registration as a nurse.
    • Emergency care course or equivalent.
    • Mentorship or practice assessor course or equivalent.
    • Evidence of continuing educational and professional development.
  • Skills and Aptitudes
    • Advanced communication skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage workload.
    • Basic counseling skills - ability to understand the needs of the bereaved.
    • Able to act as a mentor to junior staff.
  • Personal Qualities
    • A mature and professional attitude/enthusiastic and positive.
    • Displays compassion and understanding.
  • Experience
    • Demonstrates clinical expertise relevant to ED.
    • Post-registration experience working in an acute hospital.
    • Evidence of teaching others.
