Lead Strategy and Performance Consultant - Venture Associate

Location: Flexible within the UK

Compensation: Starting from £40,000

As a Venture Associate, you will play a crucial role in assisting the Ventures team with market analysis, candidate selection, and thorough evaluation processes that underpin our investment in startups and innovation initiatives. You will collaborate with a knowledgeable and supportive Ventures team, working closely with the Venture Principal and the Head of Ventures.

This position is situated within the Nationwide Ventures team, which operates under the Strategy division responsible for formulating and executing Nationwide's overarching strategy. The Strategy division is an integral part of the Finance Function.

In this role, you will be expected to spend a minimum of two days per week in one of our offices, with additional travel as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Your contributions will include:

  • Assisting in the identification, assessment, and execution of Venture investments, including opportunity scanning and trend monitoring.
  • Evaluating potential investment opportunities and contributing to investment proposals while supporting due diligence efforts.
  • Engaging with selected startups, partners, and M&A targets alongside the Venture Principal and Head of Ventures.
  • Managing our investment pipeline tracking, playing a significant role in overseeing our existing portfolio and future opportunities.
  • Collaborating across the Ventures team and the broader organization to facilitate strategic investments, M&A activities, partnerships, and innovative projects.
  • Contributing to the operational aspects of NBS Ventures, including risk management and portfolio valuation exercises.
  • Acting as an ambassador for the Ventures team, fostering relationships within the startup ecosystem and promoting internal and external communications.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Relevant experience in Venture Capital, Private Equity, Corporate Finance, or Investment Banking.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to analyze, interpret, and present information clearly and logically.
  • Knowledge of the Financial Services and FinTech sectors, with a keen interest in startups and technological advancements.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities, capable of investigating business challenges and proposing effective solutions.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
  • A track record in venture investing, including experience in deal sourcing, analysis, due diligence, and transaction support.
